A major center for this production was the Hog Island shipyard in Southwest Philadelphia. Cars 4000-4129 were equipped with GE PC-5 control and could be operated in MU trains. Cars 5000-5109 were equipped with standard K control, and while not MU capable they were equipped with couplers and could haul non-powered trailer cars on heavily patronized lines.
